If you haven't yet heard of
Zalora Singapore, you should because it's not just another online shopping store, it's more than that. Somewhat reminiscent of
ASOS.com, UK's largest online-only fashion and beauty store,
Zalora also brings in renowned international brands and indie/new labels that are fast gaining a following. And judging from the prices, I think it's more affordable too.
I spent the last few hours sifting through pages and categories, and although I was satisfied with what the site has to offer and how everything is laid out, I think the website is lacking one very important feature that will make shopping online at Zalora much more comfortable and enjoyable - having the "view all products" function. As a regular online shopper, I love websites that give you the option of viewing all the products so you can just scroll non-stop until you reach the very last product they have. It sure makes browsing through all the items they have so much easier as compared to clicking pages after pages. Usually, I will give up reaching the 20th page (at maximum) because well, it gets a little taxing. With endless scrolling, it lessens the waiting time for a page to load too; great for the busy executive or student who just wants to take a quick break from working/studying.
So yeah, that is my only suggestion I hope the Zalora team could implement if they happen to be reading this. But anyhow, I have selected items that I personally like and items that reflect the most coveted trends of the moment to share them with you. And maybe, give you some shopping ideas/inspiration. Payday's coming, isn't it? (or for some, it's already here)
This week, let's start with
shoes first, shall we?
1) Espadrilles
Espadrilles are the must have summer/spring essential but seeming that we have summer all year round, we could wear them at any time of the year whenever we want to. This pair of wedge sandals from Anna Field will look great with shorts or cropped pants. Wear a loose fitting blouse and complete your ensemble with the right bag and accessories for the casual, laidback look. Plus, espadrilles look dressier as compared to sandals.
2) Colourblock Shoes
 |
| My Pick! |
Yes, colourblocking is still very much in trend. The above two pair of shoes are just some of the colourblock shoes Zalora has on their online store. Remember to tone down the rest of your outfit when you are matching them with colourblock shoes.
3) Chunky Heels
 |
| Love the colour for this one! |
 |
| Add a playful pop of colours to your outfit |
*My Pick (I like how the straps are detachable too, which makes it versatile)*
Chunky heels were everywhere on the runways, from the shows at Chloe to Dolce & Gabanna to Marni and the list goes on. And I am all for the chunky heels trend! Because, they sure are a whole lot more stable than wearing stilettos or skinnier heels.
4) Brogues
The perfect poster girl for brogues (and other boyish-inspired looks) will incontestably be Alexa Chung. The British model-turned-host has an extreme talent for trendsetting - she made the Peter Pan collar look cool (which I will be mentioning in the next Zalora post), made Mulberry's Alexa bag become a global sell-out, tempted other women to get dip dyed hair and the list goes on. It's hardly a surprise that designers are making her their muse when designing new looks for the runways.
To pull of brogues without looking too boyish, you need to either show some leg or keep your silhouette sleek. These shoes go particularly well with dresses.
5) Ankle Boots
 |
| *My Pick* Plus it has chunky heels! |
Being a fan of boots, I find it a pity we can't really wear them in hot and humid Singapore. I love boots because they are able to jazz up an outfit easily; even if you were decked in a simple white tank and denim blue jeans. A few years back, if you wore boots (any kind of boots, even the ankle ones), most Singaporeans would stare at you with a why-the-heck-are-you-wearing-boots look. But thank goodness, ankle boots are now ubiquitous in Singapore, especially among the younger generation.
6) Sandals
Well, they are not really a trend but for us living in sunny Singapore, they should be. Not everyone fancies having their feet wrapped up in a shoe the entire day and slippers are a tad bit too sloppy (unless you are heading to the market, beach, swimming pool). So sandals would be your best bet.
The first 3 sandals are simple yet chic. Choose the classic black for easy matching or coral and turquoise to add some colour into your ensemble. These two colours can be easy to match too. The bottom 2 sandals up the stylish factor with the first incorporating the colourblocking trend in hues of Spring/Summer while the yellow one exudes the cheery vibe, perfect for a sunny day out. (which is, well, almost everyday in Singapore)
7) For the Quirky/Fun/Wild at heart
Yes, this isn't a trend too. I just thought I will share 3 pairs I found that are perfect for the quirky/fun/wild trendsetters. These shoes are bound to turn heads.
Left: I am pretty sure most of you have seen the recent trend of cosmic-printed skirts. And if you are a huge fan of that, why not have it on a pair of shoes as well?
Middle: This pair will certainly make a statement. Pair it with a simple fitted LBD and let your shoes take all the glory (or attention).
Right: The bold, multi-coloured ethnic prints are not all there is to this pair of shoes, check out how this pair looks from the side.
Wild, dramatic and memorable, that's for sure.
