Andong Zzimdak Opens In Singapore! [Review]

Brought to you by the same people who made Yoogane in Singapore a reality, now we have Andong Zzimdak too!! To me, Andong Zzimdak is pretty different from Yoogane; in a way, it will appeal to the more mature crowd (like my parents haha) cos you know a stew/soup/gravy like dish is always more appealing to them instead of a bbq/grill.

But for the younger folk, we love both!

You'll be given the menu, the order form and two side dishes after being shown to your table. And the following is what we (7 of us) ordered for lunch, at a glance!

On a side note, the kimchi is really good. Really. My family, especially my parents couldn't stop praising it. It tastes almost like the kimchi I had in Korea!

Am I making you hungry yet?? Feast worthy, ain't it!

This is their original ANDONG JJIMDAK (boneless version).
FullSizeRender 20
Boneless: $45.90 for 2-3 pax, $55.90 for 3-4 pax // Original: $40.90 for 2-3 pax, $50.90 for 3-4 pax

"Fresh chicken meat  mixed with carrots and potatoes marinated in the spicy ganjang (Korean soy sauce) based sauce, on a bed of thick, chewy sweet potato noodles."

I know the star attraction here is the chicken and the sauce. But it was the humble side kick, the sweet potato noodles, that was the highlight for me. I loved the texture of the noodles - the chewiness, how smooth (almost silk like) it is, and how well it goes with the sauce. Really, it's like a match made in noodle heaven. It was perfect.

The chicken was without a doubt, good of course. It was well-flavoured with the sauce, and it was tender! Together with the noodles, what more could I ask for?

The SEAFOOD JJIMDAK
FullSizeRender 23
$48.90 for 2-3 pax, $60.90 for 3-4 pax

"Savour the unique blend of spicy Jjimdak sauce with chicken, prawns, mussels, squid, mushrooms, etc, with thick chewy sweet potato noodles wrapping up the gastronomic experience."

This is similar to the original one except with the addition of seafood! To me, this dish is the best of both worlds because of how much I love seafood hehe.

The MAYAK JJIMDAK
FullSizeRender 22
$42.90 for 2-3 pax and $52.90 for 3-4 pax

This is basically the spicy version of the original Andong Jjimdak. It's no secret I love my spicy food, I can't do without chili. You can really taste the chili if you get what I mean? It reminds me of those mala hotpot, in which there's a distinct chili taste. So for anyone who loves a kick in their food, this is the one for you. :)

What's Korean food without the deobboki (korean rice cakes)!!! Theirs is spicy btw. We actually thought it was spicier than the spicy version of the Jjimdak hahaha.

Oh and the next one's my favourite side dish of all.

The SEAFOOD PANCAKE!!! This is a must order! I'm not gonna try describing how it tastes like to you because you have to try it for yourself! Just writing about this makes me crave for it again.

Their chicken karaage is also one of the best I've had. I wanted to order it for dinner again, this time I brought my family, but they were already sold out. Haha.

Time to dig in!

As you can see, the serving portions are huge. We ordered the medium size, for 2-3 pax for all three types of the mains. They have a bigger one, a large size for 3-4 pax. But seriously the portions are pretty huge, so do keep that in mind!

And of course, we had to get the maekkeoli (korean rice wine). It tastes like beer but better! Imagine beer without that awful bitterness. It's also more fragrant! We also ordered a few bottles of soju. And we concluded that it's the perfect place of good food over drinks with your good friends! Well, you can pretend like you're in Korea for a few hours. The experience's pretty legit! Hahaha.

The boys obviously loved their alcohol.

While we girls preferred our Demi Soda in Apple and White Grape. Hehe.

That's us with Alex, one of the bosses. :)

On an overall note, I think Andong Zzimdak is the place to go to get both good food and drinks (alcohol). It's the perfect Friday night dinner + drinks place with a group of friends. Especially if it's a boy's night out! Because of the huge serving portions and alcohol like the soju and the maekkeoli. But it's not just the guys who would appreciate a restaurant like this. The girls will too, trust me. Heck, I eat more than my boyfriend hahaha. And which girl will say no to good food and drinks?

Thanks for the invitation, Andong Zzimdak!
